What is Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day 2018 is on Saturday June 30 and is a chance to support the armed forces community such as currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

There will be events held across the country to show support for this community and you can find out more about the day and events near you by visiting the Armed Forces Day website.

If you want to pay tribute to the armed forces community on social media you can use the hashtag #SaluteOurForces

What are veterans entitled to?

If you have served in the armed forces as a regular or a reserve then you may be entitled to healthcare support as a veteran.

NHS Scotland and all Scottish health boards have signed the armed forces covenant which says that:

  • veterans should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in using or accessing public and commercial services
  • special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for the injured and the bereaved

If you would like to find out more about your health rights as a veteran or would like more information on your local veterans health board champion visit our veterans health rights page.

What support is available?

Armed Forces Day gives communities an opportunity to show support for the armed forces and helps raise awareness of the contribution made to our local communities by those who serve and have served, but there are many other charities and organisations who support veterans.

For support with anything from social care to mental health the following organisations might be able to help:

There are lots of other links to support groups and organisation on our veterans health rights pages.
