GP.scot

Nationally maintained NHS websites for general practice in Scotland

Overview

From its inception NHS 24 has enabled people across Scotland to get healthcare information and advice through telephone and online channels.

We work in close partnership with all health boards and the Scottish Ambulance Service to provide essential services to people in need of urgent advice and care during the out of hours period.

The NHS 24 111 service provides urgent care advice day or night and health and dental support when GP practices or dentists are closed. The service can also help people who:

  • are in mental distress
  • think they need A&E but it’s not life threatening

Complimenting this service, we have now expanded our online services by providing websites to GP practices in Scotland which are:

  • easy to set up
  • integrated with nationally governed health information

The GP.scot content management system (CMS) for each website has been designed in-line with the General Medical Services (GMS) contract.

Benefits for patients

All patients will benefit from:

  • a mobile-friendly website experience
  • access to general practice information
  • increased awareness of national health campaigns
  • self-help guides maintained centrally by NHS 24
  • nationally governed and up-to-date NHS service and health information
  • links to the latest advice developed by NHS 24, Public Health Scotland and The Scottish Government

If enabled by their general practice, patients will also be able to access:

  • online prescriptions and appointment booking
  • ‘Near Me’ video consultations
  • a link to online consultation providers

Making this information available to your patients will enable them to make informed choices about their health before requesting an appointment.

Benefits for general practice

Practices will benefit from:

  • quick set up
  • a website prepopulated with centrally governed health information
  • an easily maintained content management system (CMS)

  • an accessible and secure website built for usability

The GP.scot website has been designed to make it easy for practices to provide information digitally to their patients.

It includes:

  • health information from local and national sources
  • information about the general practice
  • practice updates to address any changes to practice services

National health information

NHS 24 provides and maintains GP.scot website content relating to:

General practice information

Information about a general practice will be maintained by practice staff by logging into their website content management system (CMS).

  • address
  • phone number
  • staff details
  • opening times
  • repeat prescription information
  • appointment booking information
  • feedback and complaints information

Practices may add further content to their website to signpost patients to other digital services and practice service information such as:
