Vaccinating carers

Register for a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine as a carer

People who provide vital face-to-face care and support for others, and who haven’t already been given an appointment, are now being invited to register for coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.

Who can use the registration service?

There are an estimated 700,000 people in Scotland who care for a friend, family member or neighbour affected by a disability, physical or mental ill-health, frailty or substance misuse. Many don’t see what they do as caring, it’s just what they do.

If you are aged 16 or over and provide face-to-face care for family or friends who need extra support, you’re now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Providing face-to-face care can be anything from preparing meals and helping with other household tasks to giving personal and practical support. If that sounds like you, it’s time to roll up your sleeve.

All eligible carers who haven’t already received their first coronavirus vaccine or a vaccine invitation letter should use the registration system.

By getting the vaccine, those caring for others can protect themselves from the virus, while continuing to look after and protect others.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible to register for vaccination at this stage if all of the following apply:

  • you are aged 16 to 64 years old
  • you provide face-to-face care and support to one or more family members, friends or neighbours
  • the care you provide is not part of a contract or voluntary work
  • if caring for someone under 18, they are affected by a disability, physical or mental ill-health, developmental condition or substance misuse
  • you have not already received your first coronavirus vaccination

You will need to have access to an email address or mobile phone to register.

To register online you also need to be registered with a GP or other NHS Scotland Service. If you are not currently registered at either, please phone the helpline on 0800 030 8013, who will be able to assist you.

If you are not eligible yet

Wait to be contacted if you are not eligible yet. NHS Scotland will let you know when it's your turn to have the vaccine.

Register for the coronavirus vaccine as a carer

If you are an unpaid carer and aged 29 or under, you should phone the national helpline on 0800 030 8013 to register for a vaccination.

Unpaid carers aged 30 and over can use the online registration service to register for a vaccination.

We aim to provide your appointment details within 72 hours, but it may take longer as we are receiving a large number of enquiries. Please be patient and only register once.
