About the meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine your child will be offered

The meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine helps protect against meningitis and sepsis (blood poisoning) caused by meningococcal bacteria B.

The Bexsero Meningococcal Group B vaccine for injection in pre-filled syringe is used in Scotland.

How effective is the vaccine?

The MenB vaccine is highly effective against serious infections caused by meningococcal group B bacteria. It’s also likely to provide some protection against other strains of meningococcal disease.

How do we know the vaccine is safe?

All medicines (including vaccines) are tested for safety and efficacy (how well a vaccine prevents illness during testing) before they’re allowed to be used. Once they’re in use, the safety and effectiveness (how well a vaccine prevents illness once it’s being used within a population) of vaccines continues to be carefully monitored.
