Thank you for reporting a problem with this service. We will consider your request and make any changes within 48 hours.
Please only use the click to be contacted button on this page if you are a hospital patient or NHS Lothian staff member.
All NHS Lothian sites are smoke free, which means that smoking is not permitted anywhere on site. This is to protect people against the exposure of environmental smoke when in our buildings and grounds. You could also be issued a fine if you smoke within 15 meters of a hospital building.
If your hospital stay is planned, then stopping smoking before you go into hospital is one of the best things you can do to have a comfortable hospital stay. There will be less chance of complications and better wound healing if you have stopped smoking before any procedures. If you would like to make plans to stop smoking before you come into hospital, then please contact your local Quit Your Way service.
If you are unable to stop smoking before you come into hospital, then Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) can be prescribed when you are admitted. This will help with any withdrawal discomfort that you may experience during your hospital stay as you will be unable to smoke. If you decide you’d like to quit smoking for good, then you can ask a member of staff to refer you to the hospital's Quit Your Way service. A trained practitioner will help guide and support you through your quit attempt. You will also go home with a supply of the product(s) you are prescribed, and your Quit Your Way practitioner will continue to support you when you are discharged.
Service available Monday-Friday.
